UFC main event Topuria vs Gaethje underway at White House

The UFC main event between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje is underway at the White House, marking the first professional sporting event ever held at the presidential residence on its South Lawn in Washington, D.C.

UFC Freedom 250, presented by Crypto.com and RAM, is taking place on June 14, 2026, coinciding with President Trump’s 80th birthday. The event features Topuria, the undefeated lightweight champion with a 17-0 record, defending his title against interim champion Gaethje, who holds a 27-5 record.

Trump and UFC President Dana White kicked off the event together, walking out from the White House to address the crowd. The president has sought to bring UFC fights to the White House for nearly a year, according to CBS News, and White is a longtime friend of the president.

The main card features multiple title bouts beyond the headline fight. In the co-main event, Alex Pereira faces Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight championship, with Pereira aiming to become the UFC’s first three-division champion. The card also includes Sean O’Malley facing Aiemann Zahabi in a bantamweight bout.

The event was built on a custom-built, open-air arena with a 4,300-seat capacity, according to Stat Sniper. A 92-foot structure known as the “Claw” encloses the UFC Octagon. Trump told reporters the rigging will come down after the fight concludes.

Vice President JD Vance and other top officials are in attendance, along with thousands of guests including members of the military. The South Lawn is filled with spectators, and fans are also watching from the nearby Ellipse. The Zac Brown Band, accompanied by the Joint Armed Forces Chorus, sang the national anthem, and a military flyover occurred at the end of the anthem.

The event serves as an informal kickoff to the Trump administration’s “America 250” celebrations planned for the summer, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Great American State Fair and the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., are among other events planned by Freedom 250, a Trump-aligned organization.

Two Virginia residents had sued to block the event, arguing UFC had been unlawfully granted “unfettered access to the White House” for a private, for-profit sports event. A federal judge declined to block the event on Friday, with the Justice Department arguing the plaintiffs filed their case too late and could not prove harm.

The main card is streaming live on Paramount+, which is owned by Paramount Skydance, the parent company of CBS News.
