Alaska Airlines opened a new 14,000-square-foot lounge at Portland International Airport on June 4, 2026, doubling the space of its previous Portland location and marking a major investment in premium travel experience for West Coast travelers.
The nearly $18 million investment reflects Alaska’s commitment to expanding its lounge network across key hubs. The new space, which took more than two years to complete, features more than 230 seats, including Alaska’s Signature Loungers, alongside thoughtfully designed Pacific Northwest aesthetics with a striking wooden Mt. Hood mural by artist Ben Butler and a warm fireplace.
Guests at the Portland lounge can enjoy barista-crafted coffee, West Coast-inspired cocktails, and fresh, locally inspired food. The space includes multiple seating options ranging from private booths and soundproof rooms with desks to reclined loungers, all with ample power outlets and workspaces. Additional amenities include a pancake machine and full bar service, according to OregonLive.
“Portland guests have chosen Alaska for years and played an important role in our growth in the Pacific Northwest,” said Shane Jones, Alaska’s Senior Vice President of Fleet, Products and Guest Experience, in the official announcement. “This new Lounge is our way of thanking them and a reflection of our growing portfolio of premium guest experiences.”
Alaska is the largest carrier at Portland International Airport, operating more than 100 daily departures and nonstop service to over 60 destinations. The airline expects to offer 50% more seats out of Portland by fall 2026 compared to two years ago, according to the official press release, underscoring the strategic importance of the expanded lounge to handle increased passenger volume.
Broader Expansion Strategy
The Portland lounge opening is part of a larger investment in Alaska’s premium travel infrastructure. The airline has announced plans for a landmark 41,000-square-foot lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, set to open in late 2027, which will rank among the largest airline lounges in the country. Additionally, Alaska is designing new lounge spaces in San Diego and an expanded lounge in Honolulu, both slated for early 2028.
Alaska Lounge members can access eight premium lounges across Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines’ network. Standard Alaska Lounge membership provides access to all Alaska-operated locations, while Lounge+ membership unlocks access to nearly 90 partner lounges worldwide, including oneworld alliance partners.
