Emirates removes A380 from 6 routes in June amid demand shift

Emirates is removing its Airbus A380 from six routes in June 2026 as the airline adjusts to a slowdown in passenger demand across certain markets, according to recent schedule announcements. The affected routes are Copenhagen, Osaka, Washington Dulles, Munich, Manchester, and London Gatwick, all departing from Dubai.

Across these six routes, the airline has slashed 286 A380 flights (in each direction) throughout June, according to Simple Flying. The aircraft will be replaced by smaller jets, including the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350, on these services.

The move is reportedly linked to a slowdown in passenger demand across certain markets following regional developments in the Middle East, according to AirwayBuzz. Middle East air traffic dropped 46.6 percent in April 2026 compared to the prior year, though this represented a recovery from March’s 59.2 percent decline when regional airspace closures severely disrupted operations, according to AirInsight citing IATA data.

Emirates has been managing its A380 operations more carefully throughout 2026. In February, the airline announced it would cut about 20 percent of flights operated by its rare 615-seat A380 variant for the year, according to multiple aviation sources. The airline still maintains an ambitious long-term commitment to the aircraft, with CEO Tim Clark stating plans to have around 110 operational A380s by the end of 2026, up from roughly 95-96 aircraft at the time, according to Aviation Week.

The June route adjustments reflect a broader pattern across the aviation industry. Scheduled A380 flights globally fell from about 15,029 in 2025 to 12,449 in 2026, a decline of roughly 17 percent, according to Aviation Figure. Qatar Airways cut A380 flights by 43 percent in 2026 compared to the prior year, citing the regional war and reduced route schedules, per MSN reporting.
