A flood warning has been issued across multiple U.S. regions as heavy rain threatens to produce widespread flooding through Monday evening. The National Weather Service issued multiple flood warnings on June 8, 2026, affecting areas from Alabama to Missouri, with some locations already receiving significant rainfall.
In Alabama, heavy rain caused extensive flooding across north and central regions on Sunday. Some areas in North Alabama received as many as 9 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service. The Birmingham metro area experienced 1 to 2 inches of rain with an additional 1 to 3 inches possible through midnight, prompting a flash flood warning until 12:00 AM CDT. The weather service reported traffic crashes and flooding along Interstate 65 in the Birmingham area as heavy rain moved through late Sunday.
In Missouri, the National Weather Service issued flood warnings for the Missouri River at Jefferson City, the Osage River near Mari-Osa Campground, and Hinkson Creek at Columbia, which was upgraded from minor to major severity. A flood watch remained in effect through Monday afternoon for portions of west central Illinois and Missouri, including areas from Audrain to Shelby counties. Forecasters warned that thunderstorms and associated heavy rainfall would be able to easily produce flash flooding across portions of Missouri through Monday evening.
The flood threat has shifted southward as the system moves across the country. North Alabama experienced the worst flooding on Sunday, but additional rain is expected to continue affecting those already soggy areas on Monday. The Weather Prediction Center is forecasting another risk for excessive rainfall in North Alabama and a marginal risk for areas farther south.
