Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, faces hit-and-run charges after striking a parked car in Yountville, California, on Friday, according to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.
While driving a brown convertible, Pelosi hit a legally parked vehicle, briefly stopped, then drove away, a witness told deputies. When officers later located him, Pelosi admitted to hitting something but said he wasn’t sure what it was, so he continued driving until his car became disabled, the sheriff’s office said.
A preliminary alcohol test found no alcohol in Pelosi’s system, the sheriff’s office reported. He was not arrested, and the case has been referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution and review.
In a statement, the Pelosi family said that “Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle. Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter,” according to NBC News.
Prior Traffic Incident
This is the second car crash involving Pelosi in Napa County. In May 2022, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after his 2021 Porsche struck another vehicle near Yountville. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence causing injury and was sentenced to five days in jail, according to Politico and NBC News.
Pelosi also survived a 2024 attack at his home when a man assaulted him with a hammer. That attacker, David DePape, was later sentenced to 30 years in prison.
