Sam’s Club opens 7 new stores in 2026 across Tennessee, California, Texas

Sam’s Club is opening 7 new stores across Tennessee, California, and Texas in 2026, expanding the warehouse club’s footprint as part of an aggressive nationwide growth strategy.

The Tennessee location will open July 30 in Lebanon, about 30 miles east of Nashville, according to Sam’s Club spokesperson Katelynn Gorton. The company had previously announced six new locations for 2026, but added one more to its plans in early July, bringing the total to seven.

The California stores will open in Lathrop and Visalia. In Texas, new locations are planned for Baytown (a 169,570-square-foot store in the Greater Houston area), Katy, Tomball, and Weslaco. Baytown Mayor Charles Johnson said in March 2025 that residents had been requesting the store and welcomed the announcement.

This expansion represents the latest phase of Sam’s Club’s long-term growth roadmap announced in April 2025. At Walmart’s Investment Community Meeting, CEO Chris Nicholas outlined plans to open approximately 15 new clubs each year going forward, with the company aiming to double membership and more than double sales and profit over the next 8 to 10 years.

Sam’s Club operates approximately 600 locations nationwide. The company is backing its expansion with significant investments in remodeling all existing stores using its newly opened Grapevine, Texas location as a design template. Nicholas emphasized the company’s omnichannel approach, stating: “We are not limited by our physicality — we are enabled by it. Our omnichannel model creates more opportunities to engage with members where they are, and how they want to shop.”

The expansion comes as Sam’s Club competes with other warehouse clubs like Costco and BJ’s Wholesale Club. The company is also investing in digital capabilities, including its Scan & Go technology, curbside pickup, and home delivery services. Recent eCommerce enhancements, such as free shipping for Plus members, have contributed to record digital penetration and first-year renewal rates, according to the company’s announcement.
