Senator Mitch McConnell was found unconscious at his Washington, D.C. home on June 14 before being rushed to the hospital, according to emergency dispatch audio obtained by journalist Desiree Townsend. The dispatch recording, which captured a 911 call at 8:36 a.m. on that date, indicated that an Advanced Life Support ambulance was sent to McConnell’s residence in response to reports that the senator had lost consciousness.
Townsend shared the dispatch audio on social media on Tuesday, more than two weeks after the incident occurred. The audio has not been independently verified by major news outlets, and McConnell’s office has declined to comment on the recording or confirm its contents.
When McConnell was hospitalized on June 14, his spokesperson said only that the 84-year-old was “receiving excellent care,” without disclosing any details about his condition or what prompted the emergency response. The office has continued to withhold information about his status or whether he remains hospitalized.
This marks the second time McConnell has been hospitalized in 2026. In February, the Kentucky Republican checked himself into a hospital after experiencing “flu-like symptoms,” spending eight days under observation. The dispatch audio revelation adds significant detail to what had been presented publicly as a routine hospitalization with minimal information provided to the public.
McConnell’s health challenges have mounted over the past three years. In March 2023, he fell at a dinner event at Washington’s Waldorf Astoria hotel, suffering a concussion and a fractured rib, and was transferred to an inpatient physical rehabilitation facility. Later that year, he froze mid-sentence twice during public appearances, each time for 20 to 30 seconds. He also fell in a Senate building in October 2025 while walking with an aide’s assistance, and suffered another fall at a Senate Republican lunch in December 2024, spraining his wrist and cutting his face.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said on June 15 that McConnell “is clearly dialed in to what’s going on,” though the senator’s office has not provided updates on his current condition or recovery status. McConnell is retiring at the end of his current term in January 2027 and has refused calls to step down earlier despite his health concerns.
