Kosovo 98th in World Bank’s “Doing Business” ranking

For the first time since Kosovo's involvement in the World Bank report "Doing Business", in 2013 Kosovo marks the greatest progress in this ranking. Compared to last year, when the country was in position 117, this year it is listed as the 98th out of 183 countries. This means that Kosovo has improved by 19 positions in the most qualitative report on the indicators of doing business.

The Minister of Trade and Industry (MTI), Mimoza Kusari-Lila, having as a key priority the improvement of the environment for doing business, has led the Task Force on the reforms of doing business in Kosovo and coordinated the implementation of reforms to improve the indicators on which the World Bank report is based on.

During this period, 26 new business registration centers "one-stop-shop" have been opened where businesses can get all services in one place and get the registration number of the business with the fiscal number in only one document and within one day. A number of other reforms aimed at improving the environment for doing business have also been undertaken.

"Kosovo has made progress in starting a business by eliminating the initial capital requirement, the payment for registering a business, strengthen the protection of investors and accelerated and simplified the business registration process," was stated in the report.

According to the World Bank, the protection of investors has improved by 74 positions, making the greatest increase compared to other indicators in this report.

The evaluation in this report is based on 11 indicators: starting a business, obtaining construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting loans, protecting investors, paying taxes, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency , trading across borders and the recruitment of work.
