Diaspora annual remittances about 600 million EUR
In the panel discussion, "The Role of the Diaspora in Kosovo's Economic Development", it was announced that the Diaspora remittances of about 600 million Euros make up about 14% of Kosovo’s GDP.
It was also said that only a very small proportion of remittances are used for investment, and that they are primarily used for consumption.
According to a paper of the NGO “Riinvest”, the main reasons why immigrants don’t invest in the country are the lack of information from institutions about investment opportunities and unfavorable fiscal policies.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Safet Gërxhaliu claimed that our immigrants should be oriented more towards investments.
The Riinvest paper also says that Kosovo is ranked 15th in the list of countries that receive the most remittances.
