Georgia, Oklahoma, and Washington, D.C. held primary elections on June 16, 2026, with Republican Mike Collins winning Georgia’s Senate primary runoff, Oklahoma Republicans advancing two candidates to an August governor runoff, and Democrat Janeese Lewis George winning D.C.’s mayoral primary.
In Georgia, Collins, a Republican congressman, defeated former college football coach Derek Dooley in the Senate runoff. Collins will face incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff in November’s general election. Trump had endorsed Collins late in the race, while Governor Brian Kemp backed Dooley. In the same state, billionaire Rick Jackson won the Republican gubernatorial runoff, defeating Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones, who had Trump’s support.
Oklahoma Republicans held a crowded primary for governor with no candidate securing an outright majority. Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond and former state Senator Mike Mazzei advanced to an August 25 runoff for the GOP nomination. The winner will face Democrat Cyndi Munson and independent candidate David Hill in the general election. Republican Governor Kevin Stitt was barred by term limits from seeking another term, which opened the race.
In Washington, D.C., Janeese Lewis George won the Democratic primary for mayor, according to the Associated Press. The race used ranked choice voting for the first time in the district’s history. Lewis George will compete in November’s general election to potentially become the city’s next mayor.
