Power outages hit Houston area as storms knock out 3,200+ customers

Storms knocked out power for thousands of CenterPoint Energy customers across the Houston area Monday, with the utility’s outage tracker reporting nearly 3,200 customers impacted around 5 p.m., according to Click2Houston.

The severe thunderstorms brought heavy rainfall, lightning, and brief downpours to Southeast Texas, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and residents. CenterPoint urged customers to avoid downed electrical wires and to stay at least 35 feet away from any damaged lines, advising those who spot them to call 713-207-2222 to report the hazard.

CenterPoint Energy said all customers who were able to safely receive power were restored within 12 hours of the storms moving through the Greater Houston area, according to the company’s official statement. The utility deployed crews to repair infrastructure damage and restore service across affected neighborhoods.

Storm-related power outages are not uncommon in the Houston region. In October 2025, severe thunderstorms knocked out power for more than 100,000 customers in the Houston area, with heavy overnight rainfall causing localized flooding, according to Houston Public Media. That event underscored the vulnerability of the power grid to severe weather events during the region’s active storm season.
