More than 1,800 Ameren Illinois residential customers received $200 bill credits after participating in Community Development Workshops held in May 2026, providing immediate relief as electric supply costs continue to rise across the region.
The workshops, hosted in Champaign, Danville, and Quincy, connected customers with energy experts who delivered practical strategies to reduce energy consumption, improve home comfort, and lower monthly bills. Each eligible participant who completed an educational session received the $200 credit applied directly to their energy bill.
“This initiative is about more than just providing short-term assistance – it’s about empowering customers with the knowledge and tools to take control of their energy future,” said Keyla Ward, manager of clean energy transition for Ameren Illinois’ Market Development Initiative. “We’re proud to support our communities with both immediate bill relief and long-term solutions that strengthen energy resilience.”
Expanding Community Support
The workshops were launched under Ameren Illinois’ Market Development Initiative (MDI), a program designed to bring innovative, community-driven solutions directly to customers in select communities. This year alone, Ameren Illinois provided approximately $360,000 in bill credits through the workshop program, reinforcing its commitment to helping customers navigate energy challenges.
Beyond the $200 credits, participants received information on available bill payment programs, renewable energy resources, and clean energy job and training opportunities. The MDI operates with three primary goals to support the clean energy transition: access and education, inclusive vendor opportunities, and workforce development.
Workshops were also held in fall 2025 in Decatur, East St. Louis, Carbondale, and Peoria, demonstrating Ameren’s ongoing effort to reach income-qualified customers across central and southern Illinois. The program targets households meeting specific income guidelines and aims to ensure equitable access to energy assistance resources.
