New video released on July 10 shows emergency responders loading Senator Mitch McConnell on a stretcher into an ambulance outside his Washington, D.C., home on June 14 after he was found unconscious, according to CNN and eyewitness accounts.
A neighbor who recorded the incident told CNN that emergency vehicles—two ambulances, a fire truck, and Capitol Police cars—blocked the entire street around 8:30 a.m. on that morning. Videos captured by the neighbor show responders wheeling a person on a stretcher toward an ambulance, with the individual’s lower legs covered by an orange blanket.
The neighbor said they asked officers what was happening, and officers described it as a “medical emergency” but would not confirm McConnell’s identity at the time. Another eyewitness on the block identified the person on the stretcher as McConnell and noted he was not wearing an oxygen mask. The neighbor observed that responders worked quickly but without apparent urgency—when emergency vehicles left the street, their sirens were not activated.
EMS dispatch audio published earlier revealed that paramedics were called to McConnell’s address for an “unconscious” person experiencing “cardiac arrest,” with someone heard saying “CPR in progress.” An Advanced Life Support ambulance was dispatched to the scene.
McConnell’s office has provided minimal information since his June 14 hospitalization. His spokesperson initially stated only that he “was admitted to the hospital this morning” and was “receiving excellent care.” Nearly four weeks later, the 84-year-old senator remains hospitalized, and his team has disclosed no details about his condition or what triggered the medical emergency.
The senator’s health has been scrutinized in recent years. In March 2023, McConnell was hospitalized with a concussion and broken ribs after falling at a Washington hotel and missed several weeks of work. In February 2026, he spent more than a week in the hospital after experiencing flu-like symptoms. He has also faced questions about his fitness for office following public episodes in which he appeared to freeze mid-sentence.
High-profile Republicans, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, have stated they have spoken with McConnell recently and that his voice sounded strong, but none have offered specifics about his health status or expected return to work.
