Government to finance reconstruction of destroyed houses and churches

Prishtina, 22.03.2004 - Kosovar dailies report that the Government of Kosovo has decided to open a special fund to repair all private, religious and cultural buildings that were destroyed during the wave of turmoil on March 17th and 18th.

After an extraordinary session on Saturday, the Kosovo Government thanked citizens for positively responding to the appeals to normalize the situation and called upon them to be even more vigilant in this respect.

‘We voice our deepest concern about the large number of victims and wounded during the recent turmoil. The Government strongly condemns the destruction of churches

and monasteries that are the cultural and religious heritage of Kosovo. The Government also condemns the destruction of houses of citizens, regardless of their ethnic background,’ Prime Minister Rexhepi told journalists after the meeting.

Rexhepi also thanked the international community for its contribution in stabilizing the situation.
