The second phase of the project Kosova C begins

Contracts signed with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Hunton & Williams (H&W) and Environmental Resources Management (ERM) for the preparation of the tender criteria for selecting the strategic investor that will construct the new thermo power plant Kosova C

Prishtina, 20 July 2007 – The Ministry of Energy and Mining of Kosovo informs that on 30 July more than 50 experts of three international consulting companies will come to Prishtina for starting the tender preparation procedures for selecting the strategic investor that will construct the new thermo power plant Kosova C. The selected investor will also refurbish the blocks of the thermo plant Kosova A and open a new mining pit in Sibovc.

The technical assistance for the preparation of the tender documentation including the costs for the international consulting companies will be financed by a World Bank grant.

The consulting companies selected for advising the government on legal and environmental issues during the Kosova C project are:

- ‘PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’ with the support of “John T Boyd Company” and “Parsons Brinkerhoff”, all three from UK. These companies will be in charge of offering support in the negotiations process with the selected investor.

- Hunton & Williams’ from USA in cooperation with the ‘IPA Energy + Water Consultants’ from England. The main assignment of these consulting companies will be the provision of legal support.

- ‘Energy Resources Management’ from Italy supported by ‘ELC Electoconsult’ from the same country and ‘CSA Consulting International Limited’ from UK will be in charge of advising the Government of Kosovo in the environmental and social issues in accordance with EU-standards.

The selected consulting companies are expected to prepare and hand over the tender documentation to the Steering Committee during this year.

The project for the construction of the thermo power plant Kosova C is managed by the Steering Committee of the Project headed by Mr. Ethem Çeku, Minister of Energy and Mining of Kosovo. The amount to be invested is estimated at around 3bn euros.

Four out of ten companies and consortiums that have expressed their interest for construction of power plant Kosova C and who have met the qualification criteria are: the Czech CEZ/AES Corporation, the German RWE Power AG, the US-German Consortium EnBW/WGI the and Italian-Greek-American consortium Enel/Sencap.
