Burlington is set to open more than two dozen new stores across 20 states this month, extending a nationwide growth push that has pushed the retailer past the 1,000-location mark. The wave of openings underscores the continuing strength of discount, off-price apparel and home goods at a time when many traditional retailers are retrenching.
In March the company outlined an aggressive expansion plan for fiscal 2026 that includes roughly 110 net new stores and a new distribution center near Savannah, Georgia. Burlington finished fiscal 2025 with about 1,212 stores, operating in 46 states as well as Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

Mid-May expansion: a dozen new stores
May 15 is the company’s busiest single day this month. Burlington plans to open 12 stores on that date, serving a mix of Sun Belt and Midwest markets:
- Avondale, Arizona
- Bakersfield, California
- Jacksonville, Florida
- Bourbonnais, Illinois
- Louisville, Kentucky
- Fort Gratiot Township, Michigan
- Elmira, New York
- Asheville, North Carolina
- Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
- McKinney, Texas
- Eau Claire, Wisconsin

The roll-out continues later in the month with a small group of openings on May 22 and another set scheduled for the end of May.
Late-May openings
On May 22 Burlington will debut three additional stores in California, Texas and New Jersey. To close the month the retailer plans seven more launches across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Texas, including locations in Rochester, Minnesota, and Round Rock, Texas:
- Manteca, California
- Katy, Texas
- Jersey City, New Jersey
- Rochester, Minnesota
- Watchung, New Jersey
- St. Clairsville, Ohio
- Willoughby Hills, Ohio
- Conway, South Carolina
- Houston, Texas

Beyond store openings, Burlington recently broke ground on a second major logistics hub in Buckeye, Arizona, near Phoenix. The planned facility is expected to approach 2 million square feet and is scheduled to open in 2028, part of a broader effort to tighten distribution and speed inventory flow to stores.
What this means locally and nationally: new stores and warehouses typically bring construction and retail jobs while reshaping competitive dynamics in malls and shopping centers. For readers, the expansion widens access to discounted clothing and home goods in smaller markets and fast-growing suburbs.
Investors and industry watchers will be watching how these openings affect traffic, margins and inventory turnover in the coming quarters, since rapid store growth requires balancing upfront costs with steady, long-term sales gains.
