Toys R Us expanding comeback with over 30 U.S. stores, per Fox Business

Toys R Us is opening a new standalone store at Northridge Fashion Center in California as part of an expansion that the retailer’s site now says includes more than 30 standalone and flagship U.S. locations, industry coverage shows.

Fox Business reported the Northridge announcement on Sept. 1, 2026, saying the mall lists Toys R Us as “Coming Soon” and that the retailer’s own site lists more than 30 standalone and flagship locations nationwide.

The article traces the comeback to WHP Global’s relaunch strategy after the chain’s 2017 Chapter 11 filing and 2018 U.S. store closures. WHP Global acquired a controlling stake in the brand in 2021 and in 2023 announced a planned rollout of Toys “R” Us flagships and travel-location shops as part of an “air, land and sea” expansion.

PR and company coverage from 2023 describe a partnership with Go! Retail Group to open flagships across the U.S., and follow-up reporting noted airport and cruise-ship outlets as part of that plan.

The Fox Business story also recalled the Macy’s partnership that put Toys R Us shops inside Macy’s stores; Fox reported that Macy’s said the tie-up boosted its toy sales during the first quarter of fiscal 2022 by a multiple compared with the previous comparable period.

WHP Global has publicly framed the expansion as a multi-channel return to physical retail, and local mall listings and company store pages are the primary sources for recent U.S. openings and the current store count.

What remains uncertain is the exact timetable for the Northridge opening; Fox Business said no opening date has been announced and the retailer and mall did not immediately provide comment to the outlet.
