L.L. Bean’s flagship reopens in Freeport with grand opening Sept. 18–20

L.L. Bean will reopen its reimagined flagship store and campus in Freeport with a grand opening weekend set for Sept. 18–20, the company and local coverage say.

The reopening marks the end of a nearly two-year closure for a major makeover, WGME reported that the company will “host a series of six celebratory weekends starting with the grand opening weekend September 18-20.”

An empty flagship storefront exterior at dawn, a long walkway leading to a large unbranded entrance, seasonal planters flanking the door and soft morning light suggesting a quiet reopening

L.L. Bean describes the project on its website as the “Flagship Re-Boot,” a reimagining and renovation of the campus that has been in the works since January 2023, according to content on the company’s site.

Commercial real estate reporting said the upgrade represented a roughly $50 million investment in the Freeport campus, noting the planned unveiling later this year.

The company and local media have framed the reopening as both a retail and community event, with WGME noting the celebratory weekend schedule and L.L. Bean outlining the campus-focused nature of the work on its Flagship Re-Boot project page.

The reopening joins a wider company expansion: industry coverage in December 2025 reported L.L. Bean planned to open multiple new stores nationwide as it grows its brick-and-mortar footprint.

Visitors should expect the Freeport campus to offer updated public-facing spaces and programming tied to the relaunch, per L.L. Bean’s description of the Re-Boot and local reporting of the celebratory weekends.
