Prius gets dual-zone climate control, new color for 2027

The 2027 Toyota Prius adds dual-zone climate control and a new black exterior color called Inked as its primary updates for the model year, with pricing starting at $28,755 for the LE grade.

The dual-zone HVAC system gives the driver and front passenger the ability to set their own preferred temperatures independently, enhancing cabin comfort on longer drives or when occupants have different temperature preferences. This feature was previously unavailable on the standard Prius.

Inked is a new black paint job that replaces Midnight Black Metallic in the Prius color lineup, according to Motor Trend. The new shade joins existing options including Cutting Edge, Guardian Gray, Reservoir Blue, and Nightshade-exclusive Karashi, with premium finishes available in Supersonic Red and Wind Chill Pearl.

According to Toyota’s official announcement on July 16, 2026, these updates represent the core changes for the 2027 model year. The Prius continues with the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System, pairing a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors for an EPA-estimated 55 MPG combined rating on the standard front-wheel-drive LE grade, or 53 MPG on the AWD variant.

The 2027 Prius maintains its four-grade structure: LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited. All grades now come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The LE grade includes the new dual-zone HVAC, six USB-C ports, an electronic parking brake, and an 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system.

Higher trims add features like heated seats, wireless charging, and upgraded audio systems. The Limited grade, priced at $35,770, includes a 12.3-inch display and an eight-speaker JBL Premium Audio system with Clari-Fi technology. Pricing increases of $205 across the lineup reflect the addition of dual-zone climate control and other minor enhancements, according to Automotive Fleet.

The 2027 Prius is expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships this summer, built at the company’s Tsutsumi Plant in Japan.
