The 2027 Toyota Prius adds dual-zone climate control and a new Inked exterior color, bringing refined comfort and styling to the fifth-generation hybrid as it arrives at dealerships this summer. Toyota announced the updates on July 16, 2026, positioning the changes as part of the Prius’s ongoing evolution in the compact hybrid segment.
Dual-zone HVAC is the headline feature for 2027. The system enables the driver and front passenger to set their own preferred temperatures independently, a capability that has become standard on many mid-range vehicles but is new to the Prius lineup. This personalized climate control addresses one of the common comfort trade-offs in shared cabins, where occupants often disagree on temperature settings.
The Inked color, a new black shade, replaces Midnight Black Metallic and joins the Prius’s standard palette alongside Cutting Edge, Guardian Gray, Reservoir Blue, and Nightshade-exclusive Karashi. Premium options include Supersonic Red and Wind Chill Pearl. The new color underscores Toyota’s focus on exterior design as a key differentiator in the Prius lineup.
Beyond these comfort and aesthetic updates, the 2027 Prius retains the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5), which pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors. Front-wheel-drive models deliver 194 net combined horsepower and an EPA-estimated 55 MPG combined on the base LE grade. All-wheel-drive versions produce 196 horsepower with an estimated 53 MPG combined. The LE grade starts at $28,755 before dealer fees.
The 2027 model is built at Toyota’s Tsutsumi Plant in Japan and will be available in four grades: LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited. All grades include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which encompasses pre-collision detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assist, and automatic high beams. The Limited trim adds heated and ventilated front seats, an 8-speaker JBL Premium Audio system, and a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen.
Standard features across the lineup include the dual-zone HVAC, six USB-C ports, an electronic parking brake, and a SofTex-trimmed steering wheel. XLE and higher trims add heated front seats, wireless device charging, and rain-sensing wipers. The Nightshade grade offers a distinctive blacked-out aesthetic with black alloy wheels, carbon fiber dashboard details, and blackout badging.
