The Internal Revenue Service announced expanded features for its Business Tax Account on August 6, 2026, giving eligible businesses new ways to manage their tax obligations online through digital notices, payment options, and account verification tools.
The IRS said the summer 2026 update to the Business Tax Account (BTA) adds access to an expanding library of digital IRS notices. Recently added notices include CP081B (We May Have a Refund for You), CP211A (Application to File Extension of Time Approved), and CP134R (Federal Tax Deposits Discrepancy — Due a Refund), among others, according to the IRS fact sheet.
Designated officials can now download an EIN verification notice, Notice CP575, which can be used instead of Letter 147C at banks and financial institutions. This modernizes a process that previously required paper documentation, streamlining how businesses verify their employer identification numbers.
Eligible taxpayers can also submit payments for an Offer in Compromise directly through the platform, allowing them to settle tax debts for less than the full amount owed. The BTA platform also lets users view existing payment plan balances and make payments toward those plans online.
The Business Tax Account is part of the IRS’s broader effort to reduce paper-based processes and improve the taxpayer experience through digital self-service tools. According to the IRS, the platform allows authorized users of certain entity types to securely access and manage their federal tax records and information online.
In April 2026, the IRS had already expanded BTA access to millions of new entities, including partnerships, Indian tribal governments, tax-exempt organizations, and federal, state, and local governments. That expansion joined sole proprietors, S corporations, and C corporations in gaining access to the platform. The summer 2026 feature additions build on that earlier expansion by giving all eligible users more comprehensive account management capabilities.
The IRS said future capabilities will enable access to even more business and organizational entity types and help the Business Tax Account become a more robust online self-service platform. Currently, users can view and make payments toward balances due, schedule payments up to one year in advance, view payment history, store multiple bank accounts in an online wallet, request tax compliance checks, view business information on file, grant account access to employees, and download transcripts for various tax returns.
