Insurance brokerage QuoteWell launches Range Underwriters division

Insurance brokerage QuoteWell has launched Range Underwriters, a new programs division aimed at expanding its specialty underwriting capabilities in the commercial insurance market. The division, unveiled on August 4, 2026, represents a significant move by the Austin-based wholesale broker to deepen its footprint beyond traditional brokerage services.

Range Underwriters’ first product is a construction excess wrap-up program designed for medium-to-large domestic projects valued between $35 million and $1 billion. The program offers excess liability coverage starting at a $2 million attachment point, with up to $10 million in gross excess limit per occurrence, and includes extended products-completed operations coverage for 10 years or the applicable statute of repose.

The program targets owner-controlled insurance programs (OCIPs), contractor-controlled insurance programs (CCIPs), and single-site commercial construction projects. According to the Range Underwriters website, the program emphasizes “speed at scale” with expedited turnaround on complete submissions, clear risk appetite parameters, and construction industry expertise across program types.

Expansion Strategy Behind the Launch

The Range Underwriters launch follows QuoteWell’s October 2025 funding round, in which the company secured an additional $12 million in financing. That round, led by New Enterprise Associates and including new investors Brand Foundry Ventures and ClockTower Ventures, brought QuoteWell’s total capital raised to $32 million since its founding in 2021.

QuoteWell CEO Joey Bouchard said at the time that the company would use the funding to expand its producer footprint in the Southeast and on the West Coast, and to continue investing in its proprietary, AI-driven platform. The company specializes in placing complex commercial risks in the non-admitted insurance market, including construction, energy, real estate, and manufacturing. By launching Range Underwriters as a dedicated programs division, QuoteWell is moving beyond wholesale brokerage into underwriting, a strategic shift that allows the company to capture additional value in the risk placement process.

Range Underwriters’ construction excess wrap program is distributed through appointed wholesale partners and accepts submissions from brokers with wrap-up experience. The program excludes international projects, residential construction, properties within 5 miles of coastlines, and New York construction projects, reflecting a disciplined underwriting approach anchored to AA-rated reinsurance capacity.
