SpaceX launches 24 Starlink satellites from California


SpaceX will launch 24 Starlink V2 Mini satellites aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on August 4, 2026, adding to the internet constellation that now spans more than 10,000 active satellites in low Earth orbit.

The Starlink 17-52 mission will deploy the V2 Mini satellites, which offer four times the capacity of earlier-generation satellites, according to SpaceX specifications. Each launch of this type adds approximately 2.7 terabits per second of throughput capacity to the network, enabling broader coverage and higher data transmission speeds.

This mission marks SpaceX’s 90th orbital launch of 2026, reflecting an accelerated deployment schedule. SpaceX is on track to deploy more than 2,000 Starlink satellites by August 20, 2026, exceeding the total satellite deployments from the entire years of 2023 and 2024 combined, according to space industry tracking data.

The Starlink constellation, which had approximately 10,413 satellites in orbit as of June 2026, continues to expand its global coverage. The V2 Mini satellites are designed to strengthen service in high-latitude regions and support direct-to-device connectivity features, advancing SpaceX’s goal of providing broadband internet to underserved areas worldwide.

The Starlink 17-52 launch from Vandenberg follows SpaceX’s established cadence of frequent Starlink deployments. The company has also announced plans to deploy Starlink V3 satellites, which will offer even greater capacity, beginning in the second half of 2026 using its Starship rocket. Meanwhile, Frontier Airlines plans to offer Starlink WiFi starting in early 2027, demonstrating growing commercial adoption of the satellite internet service.
