Social Security adds online tools for disability claims, including status tracker

The Social Security Administration announced major enhancements to its online disability services on July 21, 2026, introducing a Claim Status Tracker and expanded digital submission tools to help applicants monitor and manage their cases from home.

The new Claim Status Tracker allows individuals with pending disability claims, appeals, or recently adjudicated cases to view real-time updates, processing time estimates, and key milestones throughout the hearing and appeals process. According to the SSA, the tracker provides notifications when a hearing office receives a Request for Hearing, status updates as the case is reviewed and prepared, and alerts when hearing decisions are issued.

Applicants can now submit disability adjudication forms directly through their personal mySocial Security account, including Form HA-4631 for recent medical treatment, Form HA-4632 for medication information, and Form HA-4633 for work background. The SSA said online submission ensures adjudicators receive information quickly and supports more efficient case processing.

The agency also expanded the mySocial Security Message Center to provide digital access to 26 additional hearing-related notices, including Notice of Hearing, Request for Good Cause for Late Filing, Postponement of Hearing, and Proffer Letters. Claimants can opt to receive email or text notifications when new documents are available, though paper notices will continue to be mailed to maintain accessibility.

“Our digital-first approach to service is now extending to disability through the Claim Status Tracker, expansion of digital notices, and online document submission, enabling SSA to deliver better outcomes for the American people,” said Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano. “By making more tools available online, we are empowering claimants to stay informed and manage their Social Security benefits with greater ease and confidence.”

These enhancements arrive as the SSA has made significant progress reducing its disability claims backlog. In June 2026, the agency reported cutting the initial disability claims backlog by over 30 percent, from a high of nearly 1.3 million cases in 2024 to 853,000. The agency processed 2.3 million claims in fiscal 2025, a 10 percent increase from the prior year, according to reports from the Washington Examiner.

The digital tools are designed to reduce the need for hearing offices to make outbound calls and instead focus resources on reviewing cases in a timely manner. “These digital tools will streamline operations and empower claimants to stay informed and promptly respond to important developments throughout the hearing process,” said Jay Ortis, Chief of Disability Adjudication.

More than 100 million Americans maintain accounts on mySocial Security, where they can access personalized retirement benefits, request replacement cards, estimate future benefits, and check the status of pending applications. The SSA continues to expand the portal’s functionality to provide 24/7 access to personal information without requiring office visits or phone calls.

Individuals can create or access a personal mySocial Security account at www.ssa.gov/myaccount to begin using the new disability tracking and submission features.
