Walmart is lowering prices on thousands of items, including beef, soda and household goods, in a major summer pricing initiative announced July 6, 2026. The retailer’s price cuts span across groceries, grilling essentials, seasonal favorites and household products across both Walmart and Sam’s Club locations.
The price reductions are substantial. Ground beef—the 73% lean roll—dropped 12% to $5.94 per pound from $6.74, while fresh sweet corn on the cob fell 63% to $0.25 each from $0.68. Fresh red cherries in 2.25-pound bags were cut in half to $5.63 from $11.18. Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar 24-packs fell 33% to $9.97 from $14.97, while Pepsi and Diet Pepsi 24-packs dropped 29% to $9.97 from $13.97, according to Walmart’s official announcement.
The move represents a continuation of Walmart’s existing price-reduction strategy. The retailer had already implemented 7,200 price rollbacks in the second half of 2025, marking a 35% increase in rollbacks year-over-year, according to reporting from Grocery Dive. The July announcement extends that effort with additional cuts on seasonal summer items across both stores.
Walmart’s Chief Merchant Julie Barber said the reductions aim to help customers during the peak summer season. “Customers count on Walmart to deliver the value they need every day, and summer is no exception,” she stated in the retailer’s announcement. “This summer, we’re making even more investments in price, with thousands of Rollbacks across the products customers are shopping for most.”
Sam’s Club, Walmart’s membership warehouse division, also participated in the initiative, lowering prices on more than 250 items including Member’s Mark chicken wings, beef hot dogs and pork ribs. Customers can shop the offers in stores and clubs, on Walmart.com, SamsClub.com and through the Walmart and Sam’s Club apps, with pickup and delivery options available in many locations, according to Walmart’s statement.
President Trump claimed credit for the reductions, posting on Truth Social that Walmart was lowering prices “at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday.” Walmart’s official announcement made no mention of the White House. Analyst Adam Crisafulli of Vital Knowledge noted the timing as a win for both sides: Trump needs messaging around affordability ahead of the midterms, and Walmart benefits from occupying the low-price spotlight, according to CBS News.
The price cuts arrive as Americans face affordability pressures. About half of Americans say they’re struggling to pay for everyday items like groceries and gas, according to a July 2026 survey from The Guardian and Harris Poll cited by CBS News. The Consumer Price Index in May reached its highest level in more than three years, driven by soaring energy prices from the Iran war.
