MS Reinsurance has hired Lisa Butera as Chief Underwriting Officer for North America, effective August 1, 2026, bringing more than 30 years of leadership experience in primary and reinsurance markets to the global reinsurer’s Americas team.
Butera joins MS Reinsurance from Swiss Re, where she most recently held the position of Managing Director, Head of FinPro and Casualty, North America, Corporate Solutions. In her new role, she will oversee the company’s National, Regional, and MGA underwriting teams in the United States and Bermuda, according to a Business Wire announcement.
The appointment is part of a broader leadership restructuring at the Switzerland-based reinsurer. In a concurrent move, Lucas Castagnino, who has been Head of Latin America and Caribbean since joining MS Re in 2016, has been appointed Chief Underwriting Officer for Latin America and Caribbean, expanding his leadership role and elevating the region within the company’s business structure.
Jörg Bruniecki, Group Chief Underwriting Officer, said the appointments mark an important step in strengthening underwriting leadership. “Lisa’s and Lucas’s experience, leadership skills and perspectives will help us build on the momentum we have already created,” Bruniecki noted in the announcement. He added that the appointments followed a comprehensive search process that included both internal and external candidates, highlighting the strength and depth of talent within MS Re’s underwriting organization.
MS Reinsurance is a global reinsurer with underwriting offices in Zurich, Bermuda, Miami, and New York. The company underwrites nonlife treaty reinsurance solutions on a worldwide basis through three business units: Americas, International, and Global Specialty Lines.
