Lauren Sánchez Bezos has taken a lead role in deploying her husband’s $10 billion Bezos Earth Fund, with roughly four years remaining to distribute the remainder of the commitment by 2030.
Since marrying Jeff Bezos last summer, Sánchez Bezos has become the more visible face of the fund’s philanthropic efforts. As Vice Chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, she has announced major grants and shaped the direction of climate and environmental giving. In September 2025, she announced $37.5 million in grants to support marine protection across 12 Pacific Island nations and territories, part of a $100 million ocean conservation initiative. In October, she unveiled $30 million in awards for the fund’s AI Grand Challenge for Climate and Nature program.
The fund, established in 2020, represents the largest individual philanthropic commitment to climate and nature ever made. To date, it has deployed roughly $2.4 billion of the $10 billion pledge, according to Fortune. That leaves approximately $7 billion to distribute before the 2030 deadline—a significant acceleration required in the coming years.
Sánchez Bezos has held the Vice Chair position since the fund’s early days, when she was Jeff Bezos’ girlfriend. Her increased public prominence reflects a shift in how the couple’s philanthropy is managed. Beyond climate work, she announced in December a $102.5 million commitment to organizations combating homelessness across the United States, part of the Bezos Day One Families Fund, which has donated more than $850 million to nonprofits in all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam.
The couple’s total lifetime charitable giving stands at approximately $4.7 billion, less than 2% of Jeff Bezos’ $266 billion net worth, according to Forbes. By contrast, Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott has donated $26.4 billion over seven years—more than half her estimated $35.4 billion net worth. In 2025 alone, Scott donated $7.2 billion, exceeding Bezos’ entire lifetime charitable giving, according to Fortune.
In a 2022 CNN interview, Bezos acknowledged the difficulty of effective philanthropy. “It’s not easy. Building Amazon was not easy,” he said. “It took a lot of hard work, a bunch of very smart teammates, hardworking teammates, and I’m finding—and I think Lauren is finding the same thing—that charity, philanthropy, is very similar.” He has not signed the Giving Pledge, an initiative launched by Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and Melinda French Gates that encourages billionaires to donate the majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes during their lifetimes.
