Kosovo builds a new highway

Government of Kosovo has approved the proposal for construction of the Pristina-Hani i Elezit highway.

The 600 million euros deal has been signed with American-Turkish consortium Bechtel-Enka to build a nearly 60km highway that will link Kosovo with Macedonia.

The highway will be accomplished according to Trans European Motorway Standards (TEM)

This is the second major contract awarded to the consortium in Kosovo after it won a 800 million euro agreement in 2010 to build a highway linking Kosovo to Albania.

Kosovo's Infrastructure Ministry said that work on the new highway will begin on July 3. However, according to Kosovar media, the construction did not start until end of July.

The Bechtel-Enka consortium is made up of San Francisco, California-based Bechtel International Inc. and Istanbul-based Enka.
