Jeremy Boreing, former CEO of the Daily Wire, said earlier this week that he would fire Candace Owens again “10 out of 10 times,” calling the 2024 termination a moral imperative for the conservative movement.
In a podcast interview uploaded June 18, 2026, Boreing reflected on his decision to end Owens’ tenure at the media company, which occurred in March 2024. “We terminated Candace Owens, which I feel like was a moral, morally important thing to do,” he said, “and important for the health of the conservative movement more broadly.”
When asked directly whether he would make the same choice again, Boreing was unequivocal. “10 out of 10 times I would have fired her again,” he stated. He added that “nine out of 10 times I would have fired her two months earlier,” suggesting he believed the decision should have come sooner.
Owens’ firing came after months of tension over comments critics characterized as antisemitic. Following the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, Owens had used her Daily Wire platform to criticize Israel and make statements that drew condemnation from the Anti-Defamation League. The situation escalated when she liked a tweet referencing blood libel, an ancient antisemitic conspiracy theory.
Boreing had initially hired Owens, describing her as possessing “the most star power of any person I’ve ever met” after 20 years in Hollywood. However, he acknowledged in the interview that the hiring was ultimately a mistake. “Signing her was the biggest mistake of my life—of my professional life,” he said, though he noted that “not firing her earlier is a bigger mistake, more of a bigger moral mistake.”
He explained that he had initially believed Owens could be a positive force and help the Daily Wire reach audiences the outlet had struggled to engage, particularly women. But Boreing said he failed to properly assess whether she would “always tell say what she believes is true” or “behave ethically.” He attributed the misjudgment to letting business considerations override ideological priorities.
Boreing himself stepped down as co-CEO in March 2025, roughly a year after Owens’ departure, to focus on creative projects. His recent comments mark his most direct public statement on the firing since leaving the company.
