The Diplomat Season 4 wraps filming, set for October 2026 return

The Diplomat Season 4 is wrapping production this month, with filming scheduled to conclude on June 5, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix, paving the way for the show’s return to Netflix in October 2026.

Production on the Netflix political thriller began in early November 2025 and has been underway across multiple international locations. The show has split its filming between New York City and London since the early seasons, with additional shoots in Italy’s Tuscany region in May and June 2026.

As of late May, the production was in its final stretch. Star Allison Janney provided an update on May 29, saying the cast and crew were “in the middle of filming” with “two more episodes to finish this season,” praising series creator Debora Cahn as “brilliant,” according to Screen Rant. Janney, who was promoted to series regular status for Season 4 alongside Bradley Whitford, has become a central figure in the show’s narrative following her character Grace Penn’s rise to the presidency in Season 3.

The October 2026 return date aligns with the show’s established pattern. Season 3 premiered on October 16, 2025, and Season 2 debuted on October 31, 2024, suggesting Netflix is positioning the fourth season as a fall release. With post-production work beginning after the June wrap, the timeline allows for editing, visual effects, and marketing ahead of the fourth quarter debut.

The full ensemble cast is returning for Season 4, including Keri Russell as Kate Wyler and Rufus Sewell as Hal Wyler, alongside recurring favorites Michael McKean as President Rayburn and Celia Imrie as Margaret Roylin. Showrunner Debora Cahn has signaled that the new season will continue to push the diplomatic and personal stakes forward, telling press that the creative team remains energized about the direction of the series.
