- Price: $810.00 per set
- Composition: 24-karat one-tenth ounce gold coin plus one-ounce .999 fine silver medal

The First Set: 1916 Mercury Dime Design
The inaugural Best of the Mint set honors the 1916 Mercury Dime, one of five historic coins selected by the Mint following public input and expert recommendation. The obverse of the gold coin depicts Liberty in profile facing left, wearing a winged cap that symbolizes freedom of thought. To mark the Semiquincentennial, the design includes a unique Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral “250.” The reverse features a fasces—a bundle of rods—to symbolize strength through unity, along with an olive branch and battle ax representing America’s desire for peace and military readiness.
The companion one-ounce silver medal extends the design across both sides, reflecting the original dime’s circulation period from 1916 through 1945. The medal’s design represents pivotal moments in U.S. history during that era, including the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, rendered through imagery of Hooverville shacks and swirling waves. The inscription reads “1916–1945.”

A Five-Coin Series Spanning American History
The US Mint curated a list of 21 historic coins spanning the nation’s history from its founding in 1792 to the 21st century. Five coins ultimately made the cut for the Best of the Mint series: the 1916 Mercury Dime, the 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar, the 1916 Walking Liberty Half Dollar, the 1804 Silver Dollar, and the 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20 Gold Coin. Each set will be released throughout 2026 and will be available only during that year, making them limited-edition collectibles.
The US Mint announced that orders for today’s release are limited to one set per household for the first 24 hours beginning at noon ET, a measure intended to prevent hoarding and give collectors fair access. The product page showed extraordinarily high traffic at launch, with the Mint implementing a virtual waiting room to manage demand.
Pricing and Availability
The Best of the Mint 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set carries a price of $810.00, determined according to the US Mint’s standard pricing range table for gold coins. This reflects the value of the 24-karat gold content and the companion silver medal. Collectors interested in the remaining four sets in the series can sign up for “Remind Me” alerts on the US Mint website to receive notifications when future releases become available.
