Fidelity bitcoin ETP FBTC available to U.S. investors, per Fidelity press release

Fidelity bitcoin investors in the U.S. can now access the Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), Fidelity said in a press release announcing the launch of the spot bitcoin exchange-traded product.

The Fidelity press release on the firm’s newsroom page says the firm “launches the Fidelity® Wise Origin® Bitcoin fund (FBTC), one of the industry’s first spot bitcoin exchange-traded products (ETPs).”

Fidelity’s product page describes FBTC as providing “the opportunity to gain exposure to the price of bitcoin in a familiar investment structure that passively invests in bitcoin.”

Market coverage has noted FBTC’s role among large sponsors: CoinDesk reported that BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC were attracting the majority of new bitcoin ETF flows, leaving smaller funds sidelined.

How it works: Fidelity’s crypto fund materials explain FBTC holds bitcoin directly and aims to mirror bitcoin’s price performance by passively holding the asset, rather than using futures or derivatives.

Why it matters: industry coverage says the largest ETF sponsors have been concentrating inflows, which can affect liquidity and fee competition across bitcoin ETPs and ETFs.
