A shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment complex on Wednesday evening killed two people and injured multiple others, including two police officers, authorities said. The incident occurred near 15 East Grant Street at the Loring Towers, prompting a large police response in the area near the Minneapolis Convention Center.
According to court records obtained by investigators, the suspect had been facing eviction from the apartment complex following threats he made in previous months. Court documents show that in June, the man displayed a firearm to building security and management personnel, and made multiple statements to other residents that he had obtained a new gun and would kill someone.

The suspect, who had lived at the Loring Towers since March 2025, had also assaulted another resident on the premises in March 2026, according to court filings. A hearing on the eviction case was scheduled for September 11, but the shooting occurred before that date could be reached. Authorities did not publicly identify the suspect or state a specific motive for the shooting.
The incident reflects a pattern of violence tied to housing disputes in the Twin Cities region. In July 2026, a shooting at a St. Paul apartment leasing office killed three workers — identified as Nansi G. Fuentes Zambrano, Dena M. Silcox, and Adam J. Wilwerding — after a dispute between a tenant and management. The suspect in that case, a 30-year-old St. Paul resident, was arrested after fleeing to northern Minnesota and was charged in connection with the deaths.

Wednesday’s shooting added to a surge of gun violence in Minnesota’s urban centers. St. Paul had recorded 11 homicides by late July 2026 — reaching that total more than two months earlier than the previous year — and Minneapolis had experienced multiple shootings in recent weeks, according to law enforcement reports.
