American Airlines matches $1,000 Trump Account contribution for employees’ kids

American Airlines announced it will match the federal $1,000 contribution to Trump Accounts for eligible children of its employees, joining a growing list of major corporations supporting the tax-advantaged savings program for minors.

The airline said it will provide a one-time $1,000 contribution for each eligible child whose parents open a Trump Account, effectively doubling the government’s initial seed deposit. The match applies on a per-child basis, meaning an employee with two qualifying children could receive two federal contributions and two company matches.

Starting in 2027, American Airlines will also allow eligible employees to contribute up to $2,500 of pretax earnings each year directly to their children’s Trump Accounts through payroll deductions. The airline estimates that roughly one-third of its nearly 140,000 global employees will have access to this pretax contribution option, according to CNBC.

“At American Airlines, our purpose is to care for people on life’s journey, and that includes helping our team members build a strong financial future for themselves and their families,” CEO Robert Isom said in a statement provided to CNBC. “We’re proud to build on that investment by matching the federal contribution for eligible children of our team members.”

Trump Accounts, also known as 530A accounts, are tax-deferred investment accounts established for U.S. children under age 18. The federal government provides a one-time $1,000 deposit to accounts opened for children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028. According to the Treasury Department, about 1.4 million children have already been signed up for Trump Accounts and qualify to receive the government’s $1,000 seed contribution.

American Airlines joins a rapidly expanding group of employers offering matching contributions. As of August 11, 2026, the Treasury Department reported that more than 50 companies had committed to Trump Account contributions for their employees. That number has continued to grow—as of September 2, 2026, at least 99 entities including corporations, foundations, individuals, and states have announced Trump Account contributions, according to a tracking list maintained by Americans for Tax Reform.

Other major financial and corporate institutions offering to match the government’s $1,000 contribution include Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent praised the expansion of corporate support in a statement provided to CNBC: “It is encouraging to see our nation’s leading companies, including American Airlines, supporting this effort by offering matching contributions for their employees.”

The Trump Account program launched on July 4, 2026, as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Unlike 529 college savings plans, which are restricted to education expenses, Trump Accounts can be used for various purposes including education, retirement, and first-time home purchases once the beneficiary reaches age 18. Parents, grandparents, relatives, and employers can all contribute to the accounts, with an overall annual contribution limit of $5,000 per child during the growth period.
