Newly released surveillance video shows former Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell being stopped by FBI agents at San Francisco International Airport on August 15, 2026, as agents served him with a search warrant and seized his electronic devices in a federal investigation into sexual misconduct allegations.
The footage, obtained by media outlets including the New York Post and local San Francisco stations, captures Swalwell deplaning and being approached by multiple FBI agents at his flight gate. Wearing a black sweatshirt and appearing calm throughout the encounter, Swalwell cooperated as agents executed the warrant at approximately 8:25 p.m., according to records filed with the court. The agents seized a white Apple iPhone with its charging cable and wall adapter, and an Apple MacBook Pro, leaving Swalwell with copies of the warrant and an inventory of the property taken.
The following day, FBI agents executed additional warrants at Swalwell’s Washington, D.C. home, searching for further evidence. The federal civil-rights statute cited in the airport warrant suggests investigators may suspect Swalwell used his official congressional position to silence women who accused him of sexual misconduct, according to legal analysis reported by the New York Post.
The investigation stems from allegations that surfaced in April 2026. Multiple women have accused Swalwell of sexual assault and misconduct, including one former staffer who alleged he raped her when she was too intoxicated to consent, and another who claimed he drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2018. Two additional women have alleged he sent them unsolicited explicit images. Swalwell has denied all allegations, with his attorney calling them “fabricated” and “a calculated and transparent political hit job.”
The allegations prompted Swalwell to end his campaign for California governor and resign from Congress on April 14, 2026. He had represented California in the House for seven terms and was a prominent critic of President Donald Trump on cable news. The Department of Justice opened its criminal investigation in April, and Swalwell is also under investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for accusations of rape and sexual assault. He has not been arrested, and no charges have been filed.
