NIO reports August deliveries up 14.5% year-over-year

NIO delivered 35,836 vehicles in August 2026, marking a 14.5% increase year-over-year, as the Chinese electric vehicle maker continues to expand its multi-brand portfolio across premium and mass-market segments.

The August deliveries broke down into 21,174 vehicles from the core NIO brand, 8,810 from the ONVO brand, and 5,852 from the FIREFLY brand, according to the company’s investor relations announcement. Year-to-date through August, NIO has delivered 262,893 vehicles, representing a 57.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

August deliveries represented a slight sequential decline from July’s 35,934 vehicles, though the year-over-year comparison reflects sustained momentum as NIO navigates a competitive market dominated by larger rivals. The company attributed the growth partly to expansion of its charging and battery swap network, a key differentiator in the Chinese EV market where infrastructure plays a critical role in consumer purchasing decisions.

The ONVO brand, NIO’s mass-market sub-brand launched in 2024, saw deliveries fall to 8,810 units in August from higher levels in prior months, despite the addition of new models to its lineup. Meanwhile, the core NIO brand surged 101.2% year-over-year to 21,174 deliveries, driven by strong demand for its premium SUV models. The FIREFLY brand, targeting entry-level buyers, delivered 5,852 vehicles, up 34.7% year-over-year.

NIO’s multi-brand strategy reflects the company’s effort to capture market share across price segments. The NIO brand targets premium buyers with vehicles starting around 299,800 yuan, while ONVO serves the mass-market segment with models beginning at 219,900 yuan. FIREFLY focuses on the entry-level market with more affordable options.

The August results come as Chinese EV makers face intensifying competition and price pressures. XPeng delivered 38,027 vehicles in July 2026, while BYD remains the market leader by volume. NIO’s year-to-date growth of 57.9% outpaces the overall market, though monthly growth has moderated from the 71% year-over-year surge achieved in July.
