Mayor Zohran Mamdani expanded free public access to Centre 360, the city’s panoramic observation experience atop the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building, by increasing group reservations from five to eight visitors and adding walk-in access on a first-come, first-served basis, according to an announcement on August 28, 2026.
The expansion comes after Centre 360 launched in June 2026 following a $6 million restoration project that repaired the building’s historic cupola, installed glass safety barriers, and restored the rotunda landing. Since opening, the experience has drawn overwhelming demand—reservations sell out within two minutes each month.
The expansion is designed to accommodate nearly 2,000 visitors per month. DCAS Commissioner Yume Kitasei said in a statement: “Due to the overwhelming popularity of the Centre 360 experience, we are excited to open more slots and begin accepting walk-ins. The views from Centre 360 are breathtaking, and it has been a goal of this administration to ensure as many New Yorkers as possible can have this experience—this is the next step in that mission.”
Centre 360 sits atop a Beaux-Arts landmark designed by the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White and constructed between 1909 and 1914. The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1966 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. It was renamed after David N. Dinkins, New York City’s first African American mayor, in October 2015.
Visitors ascend more than 500 feet above street level to the cupola, where they can walk a full circle and view three hundred and sixty degrees of the city in one rotation, taking in Lower Manhattan and all five boroughs. The experience operates eight viewing sessions each weekday, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 pm. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and be at least 42 inches tall. A valid photo ID is required for entry.
Mayor Mamdani framed the move as a response to public demand. “Since we opened the cupola this summer, New Yorkers have shown us just how much they want to experience this iconic landmark,” he said. “When demand is this strong, our job is to find a way to open the doors wider.”
The Mamdani administration has prioritized public access to city landmarks and cultural experiences as part of its broader agenda. Reservations for Centre 360 continue to open on the first day of each month through the online reservation system, with walk-ins accommodated when cancellations or no-shows create availability.
