Dutch Boy Paints names Deep Rooted its 2027 Color of the Year

Dutch Boy Paints has named Deep Rooted (311-7DB), a rich, earthy orange, as its 2027 Color of the Year, the company announced on August 25. The warm, burnished shade reflects a cultural shift toward spaces that feel joyful and inviting, drawing inspiration from nature and conveying grounded optimism.

Orange is a rare choice for Color of the Year honors across the paint industry. Lisbeth Parada, Dutch Boy’s color marketing manager, explained that Deep Rooted “offers a color that feels rich, grounding and deeply human,” building on the warmth introduced by the brand’s 2026 Color of the Year, Melodious Ivory, but with greater boldness and depth.

The selection process blended design research, market insights, and cultural analysis. Dutch Boy’s team identified the color trending across Spring/Summer 2027 fashion collections from designers including Diesel, Marni, Loewe, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, and Christian Dior. The color also appeared in street style during Milan Fashion Week and in furniture on display at NeoCon, a major commercial interiors trade show.

Orange tones have historically been uncommon in Color of the Year selections. Pantone, the color authority, has named orange-family shades as its Color of the Year only a handful of times in recent decades—including Peach Fuzz in 2024, Living Coral in 2019, Tangerine Tango in 2012, and Tigerlily in 2004. Sherwin-Williams, Dutch Boy’s parent company, selected a similar terra-cotta hue, Cavern Clay, as its Color of the Year in 2019.

Supporting Palettes and Design Philosophy

Beyond the Color of the Year announcement, Dutch Boy unveiled its full 2027 Color Trends Forecast, featuring three curated palettes designed to showcase Deep Rooted’s versatility. The Essence palette pairs Deep Rooted with Antique White and Western Orange, creating spaces that feel calm and lived-in. The Bliss palette combines Deep Rooted with Champagne Fizzle and Ribbon Blue to balance warmth with expressive color and joyful minimalism.

The Clarity palette features Deep Rooted alongside Felted Blue and Timbered Green, offering a more subdued approach for homeowners seeking to create focused, comfortable spaces. According to Dutch Boy’s trend analysis, Deep Rooted works as a versatile foundation that pairs well with soft neutrals, expressive blues, and calming greens, supporting homes that feel balanced and intentional.

The Dutch Boy 2027 Color Trends Forecast aims to simplify the painting experience for homeowners by offering one-coat color options, with Deep Rooted and its complementary palettes available exclusively at Menards stores.
