SNK Entertainment dissolved after 10 years as subsidiary

SNK Corporation’s fully-owned subsidiary SNK Entertainment was officially dissolved as of August 20, 2026, according to a notice published in Japan’s government gazette, ending a 10-year run as a separate business entity.

SNK Entertainment was established in February 2016 as part of SNK’s strategy to revive dormant intellectual properties and develop new digital content. The subsidiary operated as a contract developer for games, video, and graphic production, and also managed licensing and merchandise activities surrounding SNK’s library of classic franchises.

The subsidiary’s operations underwent a major shift in June 2022, when SNK executed an absorption-type corporate split that transferred most of SNK Entertainment’s game and content development, sales, marketing, and licensing businesses to the parent company. That restructuring left the subsidiary operating as a shell entity with minimal active functions.

Why the dissolution now

According to Automaton Media, the company has been effectively dormant since the 2022 absorption-type split, making the formal dissolution largely a legal formality. The dissolution is not expected to have any meaningful impact on SNK’s business operations, as the subsidiary’s key functions had already been consolidated into the parent company four years prior.

SNK has continued to pursue other strategic initiatives in the interim. In May 2026, the company established VS Studio SNK, a new game development studio led by Katsuhiro Harada, the former Tekken director, signaling an ongoing effort to strengthen its development capabilities and expand its portfolio.
