Sam Burns finishes T3 at FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis

Sam Burns finished tied for third at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis on Sunday, closing with a 3-over 73 at TPC Southwind to finish at 8-under par. Burns, who tied for second after a brilliant third-round 62 on Saturday, shared the podium with Sweden’s Alex Noren at 272, one shot behind second-place finisher Si Woo Kim.

Burns’ scorching third round—a bogey-free 8-under 62—had vaulted him into contention heading into Sunday’s final round. He trailed leader Scottie Scheffler by two shots entering the day, setting up what promised to be a tight finish in the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs.

Scheffler, however, proved too strong, firing a final-round 66 to claim a dominant eight-shot victory at 17-under par. The World No. 1 finished at 261, leaving the rest of the field chasing. Burns’ T3 finish, alongside Noren, represented a solid result in a playoff event where the field is narrowed to the top 70 players on the FedExCup points list.

The tournament at TPC Southwind marked the start of the three-event FedExCup Playoffs, with Burns earning 650 FedExCup points and $1.16 million in prize money for his third-place showing. His explosive third round kept him in contention through the final day, though a closing 73 prevented him from climbing higher on the leaderboard.
