IREN delivered its first AI data center facility, Horizon 1, to Microsoft earlier today and achieved NVIDIA Exemplar Cloud status on its GB300 NVL72 deployment, marking a major milestone for the vertically integrated infrastructure provider. Horizon 1, a 50MW direct-to-chip liquid-cooled facility at IREN’s Childress, Texas campus, is the first of four identical deployments scheduled to arrive at Microsoft under a five-year, $9.7 billion cloud services contract announced in November 2025.
The rapid delivery reflects the agility of IREN’s vertically integrated model, which provides end-to-end control across design, engineering, and construction of the data centers supporting GPU deployments. According to the company’s announcement, this structural advantage enables IREN to execute complex AI infrastructure projects at speed and scale—a capability increasingly critical as hyperscalers race to secure capacity for AI workloads.
NVIDIA Exemplar Cloud certification requires cloud providers to demonstrate infrastructure performance within specified reference targets across standardized benchmarks. The designation validates that IREN’s infrastructure can support demanding AI training workloads with performance, reliability, and scale. This certification follows NVIDIA’s direct testing of IREN’s GB300 NVL72 deployment at Horizon 1 and represents a competitive credential in a market where performance validation increasingly influences customer selection.

The Horizon deliveries arrive amid unprecedented demand for AI infrastructure. Microsoft committed $80 billion through 2028 to expand AI-optimized data centers globally, part of broader hyperscaler spending projected near $700 billion on data center projects in 2026 alone. IREN targets 480MW of gross AI Cloud capacity in 2026 and 1.2GW in 2027, leveraging its portfolio of grid-connected power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
Beyond the Microsoft contract, IREN has built significant momentum. In May 2026, the company signed a $3.4 billion five-year deal with NVIDIA for AI infrastructure services. In July, IREN announced $2.8 billion in new multiyear AI cloud contracts with leading AI developers and raised its year-end 2026 AI Cloud annualized run-rate revenue target from $3.7 billion to over $4 billion. IREN also completed the acquisition of Mirantis in early August, adding cloud software capabilities to its infrastructure platform.
