Toyota is recalling approximately 508,000 2025 and 2026 Camry vehicles in the United States due to a software defect in the 7-inch combination meter that can cause the dashboard display to go blank at startup, according to the company’s announcement on August 6, 2026.
The blank display prevents drivers from seeing critical information including the speedometer, fuel gauge, and warning lights. The defect can also deactivate the turn signal and hazard lamps, as well as certain warning buzzer sounds such as the smart key reminder and seat belt reminders, reducing the ability to see important safety indicators and increasing the risk of a crash depending on the specific driving situation.
The root cause is improper programming of the combination meter system, according to technical details from Toyota’s global recall notices. Unnecessary data is repeatedly written to a memory device in the combination meter during operation, causing the memory to deteriorate earlier than intended and eventually fail to display information when the vehicle starts.
Toyota has confirmed that the remedy is a free software update to the combination meter programming, performed by authorized dealers at no cost to owners. Toyota will notify all affected owners by early October 2026 and will contact customers to schedule the repair.
This recall is part of a broader pattern of instrument cluster display issues affecting Toyota and Lexus vehicles. In September 2025, Toyota recalled approximately 591,000 vehicles across multiple models due to similar 12.3-inch display defects caused by the same software programming issue.
