Corte Argentino USA LLC, a Miami-based beef importer, recalled approximately 29,628 pounds of raw beef products on August 7, 2026, after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) discovered the meat had been imported from Argentina without required reinspection, the agency announced.
The recalled raw beef products—including Top Sirloin Butt, Eye Round, Topside Cap Off, Flat, and Knuckle cuts from Argentine producer Frigorífico Gorina SAIC—were produced between May 15 and May 20, 2026, and distributed to retailers and distributors in Florida and Texas. The USDA classified the recall as Class I, the agency’s highest severity level for import violations.
The problem surfaced during routine FSIS inspection activities. Import reinspection is a mandatory safety checkpoint that verifies meat products comply with U.S. food safety standards before entering domestic distribution. When imported meat bypasses this step, it creates a gap in the regulatory oversight that protects consumers.
The USDA urged consumers who purchased these products not to consume them and to discard them or return them to the place of purchase. There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury linked to these beef products. Products bearing Argentine establishment number “EST. N° OF. 2025” and shipping mark “26644-AA” are affected.
A Pattern of Import Reinspection Gaps
Similar import reinspection violations have occurred before. In July 2020, JBS Food Canada recalled approximately 38,406 pounds of boneless beef head meat products that were not presented for import reinspection into the United States. Those products were supplied to Balter Meat Company, also based in Miami, where they were processed into ground beef. Like the current recall, that 2020 case was classified as a Class I import violation and distributed to consumers in multiple states before discovery.
The FSIS is responsible for ensuring that all imported meat, poultry, and egg products meet U.S. safety standards. The agency conducts reinspection to verify that products from foreign establishments with equivalent food safety systems comply with American regulations before they enter the food supply.
