Newly released video from the 2023 Folly Beach DUI crash shows Jamie Komoroski repeatedly asking officers to call her father and refusing a breathalyzer test, as authorities prepared to charge her with the death of newlywed Samantha Miller. The video, released August 6, 2026, captures her behavior immediately after the April 28, 2023 crash that killed Miller, who was still wearing her wedding dress.
Komoroski slammed into a golf cart carrying Miller and her new husband Aric Hutchinson at 10 p.m. on East Ashley Avenue in Folly Beach. She was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone, according to the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Miller died at the scene, while Hutchinson and two other relatives sustained injuries.
The newly released footage shows Komoroski, then 25 years old, in the police station repeatedly asking the officer who brought her into the room if she could call her father. She also repeatedly refused to take a breathalyzer test to check her blood alcohol level, according to documents received from the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
After her arrest, she was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina for blood samples sent to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for testing. Her blood alcohol level was measured at 0.261%, more than three times the legal limit in South Carolina. When officers first approached her at the crash scene, Komoroski told them she had consumed a beer and a drink with tequila about an hour before the collision.
When asked to rate her impairment on a scale from one to ten, with one being completely sober and ten being most impaired, she said eight. Officers noted she was very unsteady on her feet and nearly fell down when she stood up. She also refused a field sobriety test and became uncooperative at the scene.
In December 2024, Komoroski pleaded guilty to one count of felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death, and one count of reckless homicide. Judge Deadra Jefferson sentenced her to 25 years in prison, with the sentences running concurrently. The 25-year term represents the maximum sentence available for felony DUI with death in South Carolina.
At her sentencing, Komoroski acknowledged her alcohol addiction and expressed deep remorse. “I wish I could go back and undo this terrible tragedy. But I cannot. I will live the rest of my life with intense regret for what happened that night,” she said, according to ABC News 4. Samantha Miller’s mother, Lisa Miller, told the court that the family would be affected for a lifetime by the loss.
The widower, Aric Hutchinson, has pursued civil settlements totaling more than $863,000 from three bars that served Komoroski before the crash, as well as from her insurance provider. A final settlement was approved by a Circuit Court judge in December 2025. Hutchinson also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against multiple establishments, alleging they failed to exercise caution in serving alcoholic beverages to Komoroski.
