DHS Secretary Mullin tours border wall in Texas, meets agents

United States Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin toured the southern border wall in Brownsville, Texas on August 4, marking his first visit to the border since his confirmation as DHS Secretary in March 2026.

According to the DHS announcement, approximately 9.5 miles of the 17-mile buoy barrier project in Brownsville has been constructed and deployed, with the remaining 7.5 miles planned for future deployment.

In a statement, Secretary Mullin highlighted border security achievements. “Thanks to these heroes and the strong leadership of President Donald J. Trump, we have the MOST SECURE border in history, 15 straight months of ZERO illegal aliens released into our nation, and HISTORICALLY low illegal crossings,” he said, referencing efforts by CBP Commissioner Scott and Border Patrol agents.

The buoy barrier project represents a significant expansion of border security infrastructure.
