Bending Spoons agrees to buy Airtable for $1.285 billion

Bending Spoons has agreed to acquire Airtable in an all-cash deal valuing the U.S. software company at $1.285 billion, marking the Italian technology company’s first major acquisition since its Nasdaq debut just over a month ago.

Airtable, founded in 2013, provides a no-code platform that combines spreadsheet and database capabilities, allowing companies to build custom applications and manage workflows without writing code. The company serves over 500,000 organizations, including 80% of the Fortune 100, with annual recurring revenue of approximately $480 million as of June 2026, according to Bending Spoons’ announcement.

The acquisition price represents a significant decline from Airtable’s previous peak. In December 2021, the company raised $735 million in a Series F funding round that valued it at $11.7 billion—making the 2026 purchase price roughly 89% lower than that valuation.

Bending Spoons went public on July 1, 2026, with an IPO price of $29 per share, surging 40% on its first day of trading to value the company at $18.4 billion. The Milan-based company has built a reputation for acquiring and restructuring digital businesses, pursuing a model that blends operational excellence with aggressive cost reduction. Bending Spoons’ CEO Luca Ferrari stated that “Airtable is a pioneering brand reshaping how teams organize data and manage critical workflows,” and emphasized the company’s commitment to investing in Airtable for the long term while accelerating innovation.

The Airtable acquisition follows Bending Spoons’ purchases of internet brand AOL in January 2026 and ticketing platform Eventbrite in March 2026. The company’s broader portfolio includes Vimeo, Evernote, WeTransfer, Harvest, and other digital brands. Bending Spoons has identified around 1,000 potential acquisition targets and spent approximately $1.85 billion on acquisitions in 2025 alone, according to its IPO filings.

Howie Liu, Airtable’s co-founder and CEO, said the partnership would provide “the resources and the long-term commitment Airtable needs to pursue that vision even more boldly as we build the AI-native platform of the future.” The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Until then, both companies will operate independently.

The deal underscores Bending Spoons’ acquisition-driven model, which targets undervalued software companies and implements deep operational transformations. The company has never sold a material business since beginning its acquisition strategy more than a decade ago, according to its official statements. For Airtable, the deal represents an exit after years of venture capital funding that failed to deliver a public offering or higher valuation.
