Pfizer reports Q2 earnings today, with guidance in focus

Pfizer raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance after reporting stronger-than-expected Q2 earnings this morning, with the drugmaker now projecting $60.5 billion to $62.5 billion in annual revenue, up from its prior range of $59.5 billion to $62.5 billion.

The pharmaceutical giant reported second-quarter revenue of $15.03 billion, exceeding analyst expectations of approximately $14.40 billion to $14.45 billion. However, the company swung to a net loss of $248 million in the quarter, a shift from profitability in the prior year.

The revenue beat was driven primarily by stronger-than-expected performance from non-COVID products, which outperformed forecasts by roughly $1.5 billion. This offset continued declines in COVID-19 product revenues, including falling sales of Comirnaty and Paxlovid as pandemic demand wanes globally.

Pfizer reaffirmed its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings per share guidance of $2.80 to $3.00, compared with analyst consensus estimates of $2.95. The company’s earnings call and webcast were scheduled for 10 a.m. ET on August 4 to discuss the results in detail.

The guidance raise reflects Pfizer’s successful transition toward its core pharmaceutical portfolio beyond COVID products. In the first quarter, Pfizer beat revenue and EPS expectations with $14.45 billion in revenue and $0.75 adjusted EPS, yet reaffirmed its full-year guidance at that time. The Q2 results signal that the non-COVID portfolio—spanning oncology, immunology, and other therapeutic areas—is tracking ahead of initial 2026 projections.

Pfizer faces a challenging earnings environment as the company navigates the loss of exclusivity on several blockbuster drugs and a structural decline in pandemic-related revenues. The company previously disclosed that it expects COVID product revenues to drop by approximately $1.5 billion in 2026 compared to 2025. By raising the midpoint of its revenue guidance despite this headwind, Pfizer underscores confidence in its ability to drive growth from newer, non-pandemic therapies.
