Caterpillar reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $20.5 billion, marking the first time in company history the equipment manufacturer exceeded $20 billion in quarterly sales and surpassing analyst expectations by more than $1 billion.
The 24% revenue increase from $16.6 billion in the second quarter of 2025 reflects strong demand across all three of Caterpillar’s primary segments. Adjusted profit per share came in at $8.17, significantly above the consensus estimate of $6.22, while the company’s operating profit margin expanded to 20.9% from 17.3% year-over-year.

Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Joe Creed said the milestone underscores “the essential work our customers do every day and the dedication of Caterpillar employees worldwide to solving our customers’ toughest challenges.” The company cited strong order rates and a growing backlog across its Power & Energy, Construction Industries, and Resource Industries segments.
The Power & Energy segment, which includes power generation equipment for data centers, led growth with a 17% revenue increase to $8.2 billion. Power generation sales specifically jumped 29% to $3.1 billion, driven by accelerating demand from artificial intelligence data center infrastructure. Construction Industries revenue surged 35% to $8.3 billion, while Resource Industries climbed 20% to $4.6 billion.

The company’s construction segment saw particularly strong performance in North America, where sales rose 50% year-over-year. This regional strength reflects robust investment in infrastructure and construction projects across the continent. Cash flow remained robust, with enterprise operating cash flow of $4.4 billion in the quarter, and the company deployed $2.2 billion for share repurchases and dividends.
Caterpillar’s earnings beat comes as the company has benefited from the broader AI infrastructure buildout, which has created unprecedented demand for power generation equipment to support hyperscale data centers. The company raised its full-year 2026 guidance in January, projecting sales growth of at least 10% for the year, well above prior expectations.
