US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington will intensify diplomatic efforts in the coming weeks to determine whether peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia can resume, signaling a renewed push to end the war even as major obstacles remain.
Speaking on Fox News on August 1, Rubio stated: “You’re going to see some efforts over the next few weeks to see if we can’t restart talks between the two sides and bring this war to an end.” However, he acknowledged the significant hurdles ahead, noting that both sides maintain rigid positions that must be reconciled before progress is possible.
“We also understand that both sides have some pretty strong red lines, and until we can bring those red lines a little closer together, we’re not going to be there yet,” Rubio said, according to reporting from Ukrainska Pravda and Kyiv Post.
