Supplemental Security Income recipients will not receive a payment during August 2026 because the first day of the month falls on a Saturday, triggering a Social Security Administration rule that advances the payment to the preceding business day. The August SSI benefit will be issued on Friday, July 31, according to reporting from The Hill.
This is the fourth month of 2026 in which regular SSI payments will not be sent out on the first day of the month. Earlier in the year, SSI recipients received early payments in January, February, and March due to the same calendar quirk involving weekends and federal holidays.
The Social Security Administration automatically adjusts payment dates whenever the scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday. When that happens, beneficiaries receive their benefits on the business day before their due date. This policy has been in place for years and applies consistently across all SSI recipients.

Recipients should treat the July 31 deposit as their August income, not as an extra payment. The maximum federal SSI benefit for 2026 is $994 for an eligible individual, $1,491 for an eligible couple, and $498 for an essential person, according to the Social Security Administration. This payment covers the entire month of August despite arriving before the month begins.
The timing shift can create budgeting challenges for recipients who rely on monthly income arriving on the same calendar date. Receiving August’s benefit near the end of July may make August appear as a month without income, which can lead to overspending in late July or difficulty covering bills throughout August. Financial advisors recommend that recipients reserve the July 31 deposit specifically for August expenses, including rent, utilities, groceries, and prescription costs.

Beneficiaries who receive both SSI and regular Social Security retirement benefits should note that the two programs follow different payment schedules. While SSI moves to July 31 for August, regular Social Security retirement benefits continue using the normal monthly schedule based on the beneficiary’s birth date. Those with birth dates between the 1st and 10th receive payments on the second Wednesday of August, those with dates between the 11th and 20th receive payments on the third Wednesday, and those with dates between the 21st and 31st receive payments on the fourth Wednesday.
The payment adjustment does not indicate any change to benefit amounts, eligibility, or policy. The Social Security Administration confirmed that beneficiaries will receive all anticipated funds regardless of the adjusted payment date. After August, SSI benefits will resume their normal first-of-the-month schedule until October, when two payments will be issued due to a similar calendar adjustment in November.
